Many foreign students, studying in our university, revere not only their national traditions, but also cover Russian traditions with strong interest.
On the 7th of March, 2016 a group of Sri Lankan, Indian and Thai students “opened” Pancake Week together with the tutor Leonidova Vera Leonidovna.
Vera Leonidovna told students the history of this holiday, that the customs of Maslenitsa festival came from rites of Slav pagans and rituals of that time were aimed at exile of winter and meeting of spring.
Baking of pancakes is one of the most important parts of Maslenitsa festival. The first pancake was baked by the tutor and others by students. Each of them tried to bake the roundest and the most beautiful pancake. Students drank tea, ate pancakes with jam and condensed milk with great pleasure.
Such collective events, held in the hostel, contribute unity of a student collective and emotional education of tolerance.
