Indian National Holiday “Deepavali”

On the 17th of December, 2016 the concert dedicated to the celebration of the Indian religious holiday “Deepavali” took place at the Kursk state medical university.

“Deepavali” is one of the biggest festivals of Hindus, which is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Deepavali is frequently compared with the European New Year. The history of the Indian holiday Deepavali is rich in legends which are for the most part about Hindu religious scriptures.

The event was organized by the foreign students from three countries: India, Malaysia and Sri Lanka.

Present at the concert was the Consul of the Malaysian Embassy in the Russian Federation Syed Saifuddin Ahmad who visited the university with an informal call.

Also present at the concert were: the dean of the international faculty professor Yu.D. Lyashev; the head of the Administration for International Relations Yu.Sh. Iobidze, the staff members of the Administration for International Relations, teachers and students of the university.

Concerts dedicated to national and religious holidays are part of the program which is aimed at successful adaptation of the foreign students to the new environment; they encourage development of interethnic tolerance among the student body.
