Donor events at Kursk State Medical University have already become traditional. Every year in spring and autumn, future doctors donate blood. The University organizes donor days in close contact with RBHI Kursk Regional Blood Transfusion Station.
“Today 174 students of KSMU came to the blood transfusion station. Traditionally, we have a lot of people who want to become donors. But there are specified requirements for their health, and some students were not ready to donate blood today according to the results of the medical check-up”, says Associate Professor of the Department of Internal Diseases No.2 of KSMU Yu.A.Zhilyaeva, responsible for conducting donor days at the university.
“127 people were allowed to donate blood today. About 60 litres of blood were donated in total, including rare and very popular groups. Among our students, there are those who donated blood 7-8 times”, continues Yulia Aleksandrovna.
Many regular blood donors from among KSMU students join the ranks of bone marrow stem cell donors. These cells are vital for treatment of people with various types of oncopathologies. To date, 30 students of Kursk State Medical University are included in the National Register of Bone Marrow Donors.
