The library of Kursk State Medical University received publications of the Library of Bioethics series. The series was published with the support of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, Russian Academy of Sciences, Vice-President of the Intergovernmental Committee on Bioethics of UNESCO, Chairman of the Russian Committee on Bioethics of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO Alexander Grigoryevich Chuchalin and the sponsors attracted by him.
In 10 volumes of the Library of Bioethics series, works of domestic and foreign authors have been collected, who laid down the moral traditions of healing, relationship between a doctor and a patient, medicine and society. Particular attention is paid to the global challenges of the XXI century associated with the development of new genetic and reproductive technologies, as well as technologies of artificial intelligence.
The Library of Bioethics consists of three parts: general part, philosophical basis for ethics and special part. The general part of the series consists of two volumes. In the Bioethics and Global Challenges edition, all the main documents related to bioethics are collected together for the first time in the domestic literature. The unique works of M.Ya. Mudrov, N.I. Pirogov, I.P. Pavlov, N.N. Petrov and others, included in the treasury of domestic medicine, culture and civilization in general, are collected under one cover.
Fundamental work of Swedish professors I. Johansson and N. Linø Medicine and Philosophy. Introduction to the XXI Century, which was included in the philosophical foundations of ethics part, unites many areas of modern knowledge. First published in 2008, it became a milestone event in the field of university medical education. The On the Appointment of a Man publication by N.A. Berdyaev, an outstanding Russian philosopher of the early XX century, was also included in this part.
The special part of the series contains such publications as Avicenna. Moral Foundations of Medicine, which presents a brief biography, philosophical and ethical views of a doctor, philosopher, thinker Abu Ali ibn Sino (Avicenna). The I Loved Suffering volume by V.F. Voino-Yasenetsky includes works of an outstanding surgeon, doctor of medicine, religious figure, Archbishop of Simferopol and Crimea Luke (secular name – V.F. Voino-Yasenetsky). Also, a special part of the library includes such books as Martyr. Doctor Evgeny, dedicated to E.S. Botkin, Heart of a Surgeon – the most famous book of the Russian surgeon F.G. Uglov, the Doctor’s Notes autobiographical book by V.V. Veresaev, in which questions of medical ethics were raised for the first time in Russia.
