December 1 – World AIDS Day
1st December 2023

Every year since 1988, December 1 has been World AIDS Day. This day is an opportunity for people around the world to unite in the fight against HIV, to show their support for those living with HIV and to remember those who have lost their lives to AIDS. AIDS remains a public health threat. According to the World Health Organization, AIDS has claimed 40 million lives worldwide.
There are critical issues that must be addressed: eliminating the discrimination that people living with HIV regularly encounter in society, and improving the quality of life and treatment for people living with HIV.
World AIDS Day always has a theme. In 2023, the theme for World AIDS Day is “Leadership to Communities”. Communities are organizations that help people affected by or at risk of HIV. The motto of World AIDS Day is a call to action to empower communities in this fight.
