IX PRACTICAL OLYMPIAD “EXERCISES” EMERGENCY MEDICAL SKILLS
6th May 2024

34 teams of senior medical students went through seven stages over two days, in which they provided first aid, emergency and urgent care to patients of different profiles in a hospital, emergency zone and even on the phone as ambulance dispatchers.

The competition program took place on May 3 and 4 and was divided into two thematic days. The first day was held on the basis of the Virtual Clinic of KSMU: the participants acted as doctors of the shock ward, cardiopulmonary resuscitation team, dispatchers and drivers of the ambulance service. A separate competition of first aid in an emergency was held, where with the help of improvised means and limited resources it was necessary to act effectively in case of a terrorist attack on the hospital emergency room, ensuring first of all their own safety.

The second day was held jointly with the Russian Red Cross and was dedicated to the work of medics in the emergency zone. Participants had to treat festering wounds, apply plaster casts, treat asthma, diabetes, acute respiratory infections and acute intestinal infections. This program has an additional purpose: Kursk Region is one of the few regions in Russia that has such mobile emergency stations, and such competitions help volunteers practice their skills in deploying, equipping and working in major emergencies in the region and beyond.
