The holiday was first proclaimed by WHO in 1988. The symbol of World AIDS Day is a red silk ribbon folded in the shape of an inverted letter V with a loop.
🏥 A volunteer squad “STOP-AIDS” operates at KSMU. It was created in 2005.
🤝 The main direction of the squad is to engage youth in activities aimed at preventing socially negative phenomena (drug addiction, HIV infection, alcoholism, tobacco smoking) and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
For nineteen years, the volunteers have regularly conducted intellectual and health-oriented route games to prevent the spread of HIV infection, participated in nationwide campaigns, including events dedicated to World AIDS Day and World AIDS Day Memorial for those who have died of AIDS, and assisted specialists from the Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS. During this time, the volunteers have organized over 200 events for more than 5,000 students in secondary and specialized educational institutions.
📚 Throughout its activities, the squad has collaborated with the AIDS Center, Skin and Venereal Diseases Dispensary, Multidisciplinary Clinical Hospital, and the social adaptation center “Melnitsa.” Volunteers regularly undergo training at Clinical Skin and Venereal Diseases Dispensary with specialists and epidemiologists who discuss the current state of HIV infection spread in Russia, main transmission routes, risk groups, and types of prevention
