On December 16-17, 2021, at Kursk Regional Clinical Blood Transfusion Station, the employees of the organization, the administration of the university and student volunteers of KSMU once again held the Donor Day.
The first mention of the “Donor Day” within the walls of the university dates back to 1957. Over the past 5 years, the event has been held under the guidance of Associate Professor of the Department of Internal Diseases No. 2 Yulia Alexandrovna Zhilyaeva. For more than 60 years, 2 times a year, students and university staff have donated blood. It replenishes the much-needed saving reserve of blood components at the Kursk transfusion station. In December, it is vital to do this: there are long holidays ahead. Students of the medical university have always been distinguished by an active social position, a medical student, like no one else, knows how important every drop of blood is.
Aleksey Pavlovich Kovalev, Chief Physician of the Kursk Regional Clinical Blood Transfusion Station, expressed his gratitude to the university administration and the rector Viktor Anatolyevich Lazarenko for the implementation of this event. He noted that medical students play a leading role in donation, because these are people who understand that tomorrow they will have to not only be donors and donate their blood, but also use blood components to treat their patients. For 2 days, more than 160 students of KSMU and the Medical and Pharmaceutical College took part in the event, more than 50 liters of blood were donated.
Students do not forget about their hobbies. Makarenko Viktor Viktorovich, a 2nd year student of the 4th group of the pediatric faculty, donates blood for the first time, during the event he cheered up donors with musical works on the piano (Katyusha, Podmoskovnye Vechera (Hvorostovsky), The sound of Silence). The event “Give Kindness” was covered in the evening news of the Seim TV channel, in which students P.I. Zuev and P.P. Kudinov shared their impressions of the first donation experience and the quality of organization of this event.
Today we say: “Thank you!” to every donor, because tomorrow their blood can save someone’s life!
