GENETICISTS RECEIVED GRANT FROM RSF FOR STUDYING PREDISPOSITION TO ISCHEMIC STROKE
1st April 2022

The results of the 2022 selection competition for obtaining grants from the Russian Science Foundation in the priority area of the RSF activity “Conducting Basic Scientific and Exploratory Research by Individual Scientific Groups” were summarized.

Kursk State Medical University became one of the winners of the competition with the scientific project “Role of Genes Encoding Chaperones of the Hero Family in the Development and Course of Ischemic Stroke” (Scientific Supervisor – Associate Professor of the Department of Biology, Medical Genetics and Ecology, Head of the Genomic Research Laboratory of the Research Institute of Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology of KSMU, Candidate of Medical Science Bushueva Olga Yurievna).

Within the framework of the project, a comprehensive molecular genetic analysis of the newly discovered proteins of the Hero family, exhibiting pronounced protein-stabilizing and anti-aggregation effects, in the formation of predisposition and clinical course of ischemic stroke, will be conducted for the first time in the world, as well as their role in ischemic brain resistance in transgenic animal models with modeling of ischemic damage will be studied.

From a practical point of view, this study will open up the potential for new therapies for ischemic stroke, including those based on the use of recombinant Hero proteins.

The results of the study will be published in highly ranked international journals indexed by the Web of Science and Scopus systems and reported at leading Russian and foreign conferences.

We congratulate our colleagues and the university on the well-deserved victory and wish the team of the project performers creative success!
