INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CHILDREN WITH CANCER
13th February 2023

On February 1, 2023, the national information campaign “Find out about bone marrow donation” was launched in Russia.  A social advertisement about bone marrow donation will be on popular Internet sites such as Yandex, VK, Avito, OZON, Irecommend, Peers.TV and OKKO throughout the month. After a click on the relevant banners users will immediately get to the site with reliable information about bone marrow donation, as well as information about the places where users can donate blood for typing.

The information campaign organizer is the National Health Development Fund with the support of the Internet Development Institute.

“It was not by chance that we chose February for the information campaign. This month, several dates related to the topic of bone marrow donation have been set at once. So, February 4 is the World Cancer Day. February 15 is the International Day of Children with Cancer. Malignant tumors of hematopoietic and lymphoid tissues are among the six most common types of malignant diseases. As you know, some patients need bone marrow transplantation to overcome a serious illness. However, the level of public awareness about bone marrow donation is still extremely low,” Elena Stefanyuk, Director of the National Health Development Fund, Deputy Chairman of the Coordinating Council for Blood Donation at the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, says.

According to a survey “Cultural code of the donor” conducted by the National Health Development Fund in cooperation with the National Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) in 2022 only 46% of surveyed people replied they have known about bone marrow donation for the question “Do you know that there is bone marrow donation in Russia, or are you hearing about it for the first time?” The remaining 54% of surveyed people heard little information about it or found it difficult to give an answer. At the same time, a third of respondents rated the information about bone marrow donation as insufficient.

National action , in which every caring Russian will be able to take part and support the information campaign, will be launched More information about the possibilities of participating in the action can be found on the website https://km.dostovernozdrav.ru/action /.
