KEEP YOUR HEART HEALTHY!
29th September 2021

Today, on the 29th of September, more than 100 countries of the world celebrate the day of the heart. The beating heart is a symbol of life. But statistics make you think seriously: Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death in the world, claiming 18 million lives a year.

On this day, it is customary to conduct educational work about the dangers of cardiovascular diseases and their prevention. Lectures and masterclasses, exhibitions and forums, sports events are held. The organizers are WHO and UNESCO, as well as local health organizations. Conferences of cardiologists are held all over the world, where specialists from different countries exchange experience and achievements.

Our interlocutor is a well-known cardiologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Internal Diseases No. 2 of KSMU, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation Vadim Petrovich Mikhin:

– In the face of the danger of coronavirus, the role of cardiologists is increasing even more. The COVID-19 virus affects the vascular system, while the number of myocarditis, arterial thrombosis, heart attacks and strokes increases significantly even among young people,- notes Vadim Petrovich Mikhin.

According to Professor Mikhin, prevention now plays a leading role in reducing mortality from cardiovascular diseases. This is the cheapest, but also the most effective way to avoid fatal complications.

– The main measures for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases are the normalization of blood cholesterol in low-density lipoproteins, glucose, and blood pressure levels. Healthy eating and quitting smoking are half the success on the way to a healthy heart and blood vessels. There are other ways to combat vascular diseases – coronary artery bypass grafting, angioplasty, but this is already a surgical intervention, which is a more complex, costly way of treating diseases – says Vadim Petrovich Mikhin.

Moderation in everything, physical activity, the ability to resist stress is the simplest and most affordable ways to preserve youth and live long. Everyone should take care of their heart and be healthy!
