On Thursday, September 23, 2021, the first day of the II International Scientific and Practical Conference “From Fundamental Knowledge to “Fine Use of a Scalpel””, dedicated to the memory of Professor V.F. Voino-Yasenetsky (Saint Luke, Archbishop of Simferopol and Crimea).
The conference began with a morning excursion to the Fatezh district – the place where the renowned surgeon began his professional career. There, the participants were told about the early works of V.F. Voino-Yasenetsky, and at the end of the excursion a prayer service was performed at the Bishop’s courtyard of Luka.
At 03:00 pm, a solemn ceremony was held to unveil the monument to V.F. Voino-Yasenetsky (Saint Luke, Archbishop of Simferopol and Crimea) on the territory of KSMU. The monument was donated to the University by the St. Luke Charitable Foundation (Kislovodsk). The administration of KSMU thanks the Fund for providing the monument as a gift to KSMU. At the opening ceremony of the monument, the participants of the event watched an address from the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Murashko. The deputy governor of the Kursk region Andrey Belostotsky, the rector of KSMU professor Viktor Lazarenko, the head of the city of Kursk Viktor Karamyshev, Metropolitan of Kursk and Rylsk Right Reverend German spoke with welcoming words.
After the opening ceremony, the conference continued at the anatomical theater in the form of a plenary session. Elena Kravtsova – Professor of the Department of Philosophy of KSMU, presented information on the state of healthcare in the Kursk governorate during the work of V.F. Voino-Yasenetsky in the Fatezhsky district. Yunoszhon Sharipov – senior lecturer of the Department of Surgery of the Tashkent State Dental Institute and Nasiba Khudoyberganova told the participants about the “Tashkent” period of the biography of V.F. Voino-Yasenetsky, his contribution to the development of surgery and the scientific and spiritual heritage left to his descendants. The plenary session was closed by Archpriest Tigrius Khachatryan, who discussed the topic of the attitude of St. Luke to the attempts of mixing and contrasting science with religion. Based on the results of the first day of the conference, a discussion on the topic of the presented reports began, after which the participants went to the pharmaceutical building to view the director’s cut of the biographical feature film “Luka”.
