Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko took part in the Fifth Meeting of Ministers of Health of the member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
During the meeting, the sides exchanged proposals on the prospects of cooperation within the framework of the current agenda. In his speech Mikhail Murashko focused on the general approaches of the Organization member countries to solving global and regional challenges in the healthcare sphere. The Minister highly appreciated the joint work in combatting the spread of COVID-19, noting the subsequent development of national healthcare systems. During the pandemic, the Russian side sent teams of leading medical specialists to the SCO countries to treat patients, medicinal drugs and medical devices.
— For more than 20 years of its existence, the SCO has become one of the significant international organizations, whose members are able to find effective ways to solve global and regional problems, including the fight against infectious diseases. Here, of course, it is not only the proximity of our borders that plays a special role. We see a special importance in the fact that our countries have common goals and aspirations, this brings us closer together, helps us understand each other and develop the most effective ways to solve problems, — stressed the head of the Ministry of Health of Russia.
In order to increase the SCO contribution to the formation of the architecture of cooperation in the field of healthcare, the head of the Russian Ministry of Health proposed the idea of creating a Medical Association under the guidance of SCO. Mikhail Murashko noted the importance of not only strengthening the role of the medical community, but also promoting collegial decisions on the quality standards of medical care, improving the skills of the medical community, principles of medical ethics in the SCO territories.
— COVID-19 has shown unprecedented stability of the Russian healthcare system based on highly professional medical education. In this regard, I would like to invite the SCO states to consider the next level of cooperation in the field of medical personnel — professional cooperation, including the creation of the SCO Medical Association, — said Mikhail Murashko.
The development and production of innovative radiopharmaceuticals and a number of other aspects were identified as promising areas of multilateral cooperation. Mikhail Murashko stressed that the geography of cancer centers and accessibility for cooperation within SCO are wide.
— As promising areas of cooperation with the Russian Federation and SCO members, I would like to propose the following innovative areas: radiopharmaceuticals for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and non-oncology diseases, introduction of new technologies of nuclear medicine, including the joint production of heavy diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. The Russian Federation is ready to cooperate in the field of supplies and introduction of technologies of the use of Russian radiopharmaceuticals in the SCO member states, — said Mikhail Murashko.
The Minister of Health of the Russian Federation also held bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Fifth Meeting of the Ministers of Health of Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Tashkent with the Minister of Health of Uzbekistan Behzod Musayev, Minister of Health of Tajikistan Dzhamoliddin Abdullozoda and First Vice-Minister of Health of Kazakhstan Marat Shoranov. Partnership relations have been built with the SCO countries, a number of large-scale projects in the field of healthcare are being implemented. They agreed to develop further cooperation in various areas. These are projects in the field of medical education, including postgraduate education, methodological and practical support, exchange of technologies. We are in constant contact and are confident that cooperation will expand.
Also during his visit to Uzbekistan, Mikhail Murashko visited the Republican Center for Pediatric Oncohematology in Tashkent, where children with acute leukemia are treated.
— By the agreement between the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Russian specialists provide assistance in the opening and development of the center. Specialists in the field of pediatric oncohematology are being trained on the basis of leading Russian institutions. Even today, children receive modern treatment here, a plan for the further development of the center is being implemented. This is one of the examples of successful cooperation in the field of healthcare between Russia and Uzbekistan, — said Mikhail Murashko.
