On June 10, 2022, KSMU held V Interregional competition in emergency pre-psychological care “Stress Factor”. The competition was organized by the Department of Health Psychology and Neuropsychology of Kursk State Medical University with the support of the psychological services of the Main Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in Kursk Region. Significant assistance in preparation and conduct of the Competition was provided by more than 40 volunteer students of KSMU.

Modern realities place increased demands on the behavior of young people in difficult life situations: it is necessary to maintain confidence, know the algorithms of behavior and be able to provide assistance to those who need it. KSMU has already developed a tradition of organizing training for Kursk and nonresident youth in ways of providing emergency pre-psychological assistance and support.

The main aim of the competition is to promote a culture of safe behavior in extreme conditions and crisis situations of life, as well as to improve knowledge and skills in the field of providing pre-psychological care in accidents, stressful life circumstances, injuries and other conditions that threaten the life and health of people.

In 2022, 26 teams from Kursk and Moscow higher, secondary and general educational institutions took part in the competition.

The program of the event provides for testing the participants for knowledge of the signs of the main manifestations of emotional states and algorithms of behavior in extreme situations, peculiarities of interaction with victims. At the second stage, the participants had to demonstrate practical skills of interaction with victims. The third stage involved working with a psychological support telephone subscriber and providing remote assistance. Students of medical, pediatric faculties, faculty of clinical psychology act as “victims” in all practical stages: they learned to demonstrate various emotional states for a long time (aggression, psychomotor agitation, apathy, hysteria, etc.).

In order to prepare the participants for the competitions within the framework of the Stress-out practice-oriented project, face-to-face and distance training seminars for schoolchildren on the provision of first pre-psychological assistance were held.

The competition refers to the events included in the list for the 2021/2022 academic year, approved by the Order of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation of August 31, 2021 No. 616 “On approval of the list of Olympiads and other intellectual and (or) creative competitions, events aimed at the development of intellectual and creative abilities, abilities to engage in physical education and sports, interest in scientific (research), engineering, inventive, creative, physical culture and sports activities, as well as at the promotion of scientific knowledge, creative and sports achievements for the 2021/22 academic year” (Registered in the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation on November 18, 2021).
