VOLUNTEERS OF KSMU TOOK PART IN THE CAMPAIGN “WE DO NOT LEAVE OUR OWN BEHIND”
3rd August 2022

On August 1-2, the unit of the volunteer groups of Kursk State Medical University together with the Department of General and Bioorganic Chemistry organized the formation of individual bandages within the framework of the Regional Volunteer Campaign “We Don’t Leave Our Own Behind” for the Russian military participating in the special operation in Ukraine.

FP – first-aid pack is a sterile first aid wound dressing kit consisting of a gauze bandage and two cotton gauze pads. The dressing bag can be used for burns or wounds, helping to stop bleeding and protecting the affected area from infection. This product is indispensable for first aid in the field.

Head of the Department of General and Bioorganic Chemistry, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences Elena Vyacheslavovna Budko shared her opinion with the volunteers: “The idea of forming a modernized FP was born in the process of communication with a group of volunteers who have been in touch with the military of the DPR and LPR since February. The volunteers were informed about hemostatic agents (haemostatics). The powder for these purposes has been developed at the department of our university for a long time. Multiple conference presentations, surgeon approbation, animal testing are just a small part of what this scientific discovery has gone through. We understand what they need in difficult situations: bandages, sponges were purchased, the idea of FP was formed. The organization does not want to stop at the work done and intends to continue to provide assistance to the Russian military involved in the special operation in Ukraine.”

Thus, the Department of General and Bioorganic Chemistry together with the unit of volunteer groups of Kursk State Medical University  formed about 60 first-aid packs. More than 15 volunteers took part in the assistance.

According to the student of medical faculty Senchenko Darya, “Everyone knows that soldiers of our army suffer losses during the special military operation. When there was an offer to help with the manufacture of individual bags with hemostatics, I immediately agreed, because the task was not so difficult, and the benefit would be enormous. It seems to me that in this way, I was able to show love for my Motherland and help people who sacrifice themselves for the sake of a peaceful sky above our heads.”

Each of these packages can save lives on the front lines and decrease losses among our fighters.

The unit of the volunteer groups expresses their deep gratitude to the volunteers who took part in the action.
