A NEW EXPOSITION “HISTORY OF MEDICAL EDUCATION” OPENED AT KSMU

The exposition occupied three floors of the central staircase in the main building. It was solemnly opened on October 4 – the International Doctor’s Day and on the eve of the Teacher’s Day.

The opening ceremony began with the solemn cutting of the symbolic red ribbon. Rector of KSMU V.A. Lazarenko, recalled that the staircase of the Nobel laureates was solemnly opened at the university last year, earlier the Pirogov staircase was decorated, which captured the life and professional path of the great scientist. Thus, students have an opportunity to immerse themselves in the history of medicine during breaks between classes.

A stained-glass window, a fragment of Gustav Klimt’s painting “Death and Life”, has become the adornment of the new exhibition. The creation of a colorful decor was facilitated by the Kursk regional organization of healthcare workers, the trade union committee of KSMU employees. On the walls along the stairs, there are bas-reliefs with images of great doctors: N.L. Bidloo – “close” doctor of Peter I; E.O. Mukhin – the founder of the anatomical and physiological direction, the creator of the course of anatomy in Russian, the developer of Russian anatomical terminology; N.A. Semashko – the creator of a unified nationwide healthcare system; N.N. Burdenko, who started as a military field surgeon and later became the president of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences.
